Busting
with Energy™ is the only dragon boat team comprised entirely of breast cancer survivors in
Saskatchewan. We are based out of Saskatoon where we train and race on
the South Saskatchewan River. We start a 12-week training program each February
at Bourassa’s & Associates Rehabilitation Centre and begin our
training on the South Saskatchewan River in May. There are
approximately 40 members, including 17 grandmothers, ranging in age up to
73 years. We are a small but mighty team with a lot of spirit and heart.
Busting
with Energy™ promotes a healthy lifestyle with our positive energy. Our main focus is to support each other
and to let the community know that there is life after breast cancer.
The team
has lost 12 paddlers to breast cancer, some have gone through a
recurrence, and others have metastatic breast cancer.
Busting
with Energy™ is involved in fundraising for numerous research and
awareness projects, including the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and
Saskatchewan's first Breast Health Centre, which opened in March of 2006
in Saskatoon, C95 Radio Marathon for breast cancer research, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC
Run for the Cure, and Choc la
Cure.
